It was spring of 2004 and Forty Foot Echo was wrapping up a 14 week tour with Three Days Grace and Theory of a Deadman in support of their top 10 single "Save Me". It was an awesome tour across Canada and the States. Unfortunately that was the last tour Forty Foot Echo would play under this line up of musicians and friends.Forty Foot Echo returned to L.A. to find their rehearsal space and apartment gone and unpaid for by Their Label (Hollywood Records). The well had run dry from the Labels budget and the bands agents had no opportunities on the horizon, Murray Yates ( Lead Vocalist/ Song writer) needed to take action and decided to keep the band going in L.A. by renting out a old, dirty, cockroach infested Jam space in North Hollywood and live in it as well with his best friend and Guitarist Eric Schraeder.The band rehearsed as much as they could in between looking for work and still no support from the label. Yates became desperate and decided to return to Vancouver (where he is from) in hopes to get a line of credit to support the band in L.A. Once Yates did that he returned to the Vancouver airport where US immigration denied him access to the States due to an expired work visa. Now, when the bottom already seemed to have fallen out, Yates found himself trapped in Vancouver away from his band, his Label, his fiance and his network of friends and industry associates.
Yates found himself alone and in shock. This is the point of shock that inspired Yates to write the emotionally powerful, edgy, uplifting sound of the new Forty Foot Echo CD (After Shock). After losing so much at once Yates became sheltered and alone. It was within this time that an old friend and guitar player ( Shaun McDowell) offered support and told Yates that he would help write a Cd and put a band together. Yates agreed and accepted his offer and the formation of the new Forty Foot Echo was born.Yates and McDowell worked together at the Vancouver Sun and wrote every free moment they had. Day and Night! Until they had finished the 11 song CD by January, 2005.
Now that the songs were finished they needed a kick ass band to back it up. After 6 months of auditions the line up was complete. Murray Yates ( Vocals), Shaun McDowell ( Lead Guitar), Ryan Chamberlain (Guitar,BG's), Justin Hinteregger ( Bass ) and Dayvid Swart on Drums. It was now July 2005 and FFE was in studio at The Armoury Studios in Vancouver. The Cd was being produced by local rock producer Darren Grahn and Murray Yates. Randy Staubb mixed the 11 song CD along with Grahn. Finishing up the new kick ass and diverse yet commercially edgy and captivating CD, After Shock, If one where to describe the sound of the new FFE it would be like this. Take Velvet Revolver and Collective Soul and put them in a head on collision. It would sound something like that. The single (Closer) is a sexy, high-energy song about seduction and rock and roll. Forty Foot Echo has currently finished shooting a video for the single (Closer) and is currently rehearsing and preparing to kick off their After Shock tour this October, 2006 In support of the new 11 song CD.
